Home Truths
Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture, Domestic Violence Response and Engage Art Studios presented Home Truths as part of the 16 Days of Action 2020.
Home Truths looked at women’s experience of and engagement with the Irish legal system in dealing with domestic violence and abuse. Based on the testimonies of 15 women who have experienced domestic abuse and engaged with the criminal justice and family law system.

We engaged with Galway 2020 and Engage Art Studios, Galway Theatre room, Galway Writers Group, Clarinbridge Actors Group to produce “Home Truths” a drama which looks at women’s experience of and engagement with the Irish Courts and legal system in dealing with domestic abuse.
DVR staff member Evelyn Glynn gathered women’s testimonies of their experiences of court and national artists were invited to respond.
This was launched by journalist Susan Mckay, and Derry Girl actor Siobhan McSweeney and attended by 200 people. Subsequently two exhibitions, a performance piece by artist ÁinePhillips and a panel discussion achieved substantial local coverage in the media.
Artists include Evelyn Glynn, Alison Lowry, Áine Phillips, Blaise Drummond and Ruby Wallis.
