Women can suffer domestic abuse at any age. DVR works with women of all ages and we have specialised supports for women 55 years and over.

Later in life domestic abuse: Women can suffer domestic abuse at any age. DVR works with women of all ages and we have specialised supports for women 55 years & over.

Elder abuse is “the abuse of someone aged 65 or over and it happens in a relationship where there is an expectation of trust. It is a single or repeated act, or a lack of action, that causes harm or distress to the older person or that violates their human and civil rights.”

Types of abuse

Neglect: Neglect is when essentials such as food, heating, medication, or hygiene are withheld – and also when a person’s resources are not used for their benefit.

Financial: Unauthorised or improper use of a person’s funds, property, pension or benefits.

Sexual: Sexual activity that is unwanted or not understood.
